This turns off the compressor when reaching the desired pressure and turns it on again as soon as the system pressure drops below a certain level. The pressure switch thus ensures that the compressor is only running when it is actually needed and thus can extend its lifetime. In addition, this kind of switching control ensures the best energy balance of all types of compressor control. A pressure vessel with large volume reduces the number of engine switching cycles, which has a positive impact on the life time of the compressor.

The individuality of the compressor control with a pressure switch is provided by the adjustment of both the switch point and the reset point. The difference between the switch-on and switch-off pressure is the so-called hysteresis of the pressure switch. This is a characteristic of pressure switches that is fixed in most mechanical pressure switches. However, the mechanical pressure switch S4250 provides an adjustable hysteresis,that can be set both at factory or by the customer on-site. Thus this mechanical switch can be optimally adapted to the requirements of the application.
