Intelligent force measurement in deep drilling

Arctic cold down to -40 degrees, torrid desert sun with extreme heat: Extreme climatic conditions are never a rarity in deep drilling. The technology must be up to the task - even during sustained reliable force measurement.

Practical example of a deep drill - the requirement

The tensile forces must be measured during the drilling operation and monitored for adherence to limits. Hitherto, this has been implemented in practice via a tension transducer (40t). This is installed at a fixed point of the hoist rope in the load chain. Owing to the 8-fold reeving, tensile forces of up to 8x40t = 320t were able to be measured.

  • The challenge: Friction losses arise in the pulleys. This is why the requirement of an accurate tensile force measurement in the part-load range cannot be met.
  • The task for tecsis: To develop an individual solution for measuring force. Does the safety-relevant monitoring of the tensile forces call for a measuring device of redundant design?

With the tecsis solution the necessary performance level in the system can be ensured.

Does the measuring point lie in a potentially explosive zone? In this case, explosion protection conformant to Atex directives Ex ib IIC T3/T4 must be guaranteed.
